Istanbul is a large, walkable city with an efficient tram, metro, and ferry network, but traffic can be heavy, so it is worth planning transfers in advance, especially to and from the airports.
The local currency is the Turkish lira, though many hotels and tour operators also accept euros or US dollars. Modest dress is appreciated when visiting mosques, and tipping 5-10% is customary in restaurants.
